WOOD RUNABOUT BOAT CARTOON HOW TO
This year’s show included “youth judges,” who learned how to judge boats using ACBS judging guidelines. Ned Mohrman was a pioneer and one of the organizers of the Portage Lakes Boat Show and Parade, the Summit Boat Racing organization and past owner of Sandy Beach Marine, according to ACBS chapter officials. The boat stayed in the family and was restored in Maryland and brought back to Portage Lakes by a nephew for the brothers to enjoy again on the lakes. The brothers saved money earned from their paper routes in Akron’s North Hill to buy the 1956 Cruisers Inc.’s 250 Holiday and 40-horsepower Johnson motor from Warner’s Boat House when they were in their teens, according to show organizers, and they enjoyed waterskiing on Turkeyfoot Lake in their youth. The Ned Mohrman Memorial Trophy, presented to the best boat in the show, was awarded to brothers Ken, Dick and Jim Shumaker. The Portage Lakes Historical Society co-hosted the event. The event, hosted by the Antique and Classic Boat Society (ACBS) - an international organization devoted to the preservation and recognition of all types of personal watercraft with over 55 chapters throughout North America and Europe - and its North Coast Ohio Chapter, included 48 classic wood and fiberglass boats water and land displays outboard motors and a sailboat. 11 at the docks of Pick’s at PLX and the Harbor Inn, drew a record crowd, according to event organizers. The boat, registered in Maryland, returned for the show this year in the name of the original owners - brothers Jim, Ken and Dick Shumaker.ĬOVENTRY - The Portage Lakes 45th annual Antique and Classic Boat Show, held Sept.
